Global Overview
The wave of ECM activity which started in Q2 2020 continued into the new year as global ECM volume hit a record quarterly volume of $465.0bn in Q1 2021. The three other quarters since Q2 2020 all also occupy a spot in the top 5 highest volume quarters ever. With 2,221 deals priced the first quarter was also the most active on record. $97.0bn of SPAC IPO volume contributed to the record $200.9bn of Global IPO volume–the first time since Q4 1998 that IPOs raised the most in a quarter of the three ECM product types (IPO, FO & Conv).
